Ed Davis Says Baltimore Police Response Is 'Very Delicate Balance'
BOSTON (CBS) - Former Boston police commissioner and current WBZ security analyst Ed Davis provided perspective on the riots in Baltimore. He said it is clear the situation is very different than the "Black Lives Matter" movement. The movement was a protest and what is happening in Baltimore are riots.
"One of the things that strikes me about this incident is it started as violent from the start," said Davis. "(The difference is) a peaceful protest where expressing their rights under the Constitution and a throng of people that are committing crimes - that is what's happening here."
Davis has every confidence the violence will not spread to other cities and the issue has to do with the city of Baltimore. He said what we are witnessing does show the strain police departments are under right now.
"I think due to the fact that they were sort of out-numbered at the beginning, they have not taken aggressive means to stop these incidents. You've seen stores being looted cars set on fire with a very minor police response," said Davis. "(It's a) very delicate balance when the issue is police use of force. I think that's what you're seeing here is some hesitation because of what drives the issue to begin with."
