Easton Man Found Shot In Woods Dies; Police Search For Vehicle
EASTON (CBS) -- A man who was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a wooded area Tuesday has died, the Bristol County District Attorney's office said.
Daniel G. Smith, 35, of Florida, died Friday night at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Easton Police said two boys riding their bikes in a wooded area between Pond Street and Langwater Pond found Smith Tuesday, about 25 yards into the woods from the road. The boys then told their mother, who called police around 1 p.m.
Smith was taken to Brockton's Good Samaritan Hospital, then taken by MedFlight to Boston. The Bristol DA's office said he remained in critical condition until his death.
The incident, which Easton and State Police are investigating as suspicious, has some residents nervous.
"The news is shocking. It's never in this neighborhood, and here it is now in this neighborhood," Easton resident Gary Foss said.
Melanie Horris said she feels bad for the kids who came across the injured man.
"I feel really bad for the boys that found the man, that has to be really hard for them," she said. "It was a day off from school, it was election day, and they were out riding their bikes as the kids in this town do. I can't even imagine."
Police are asking the public to help them search for a vehicle that may have been connected to Smith's shooting. The car in question is a red 2016 Mazda 3 sedan with a Florida plate reading 372QQK, and police would like anyone who may have seen it to contact them.
