East Boston Gas Station Robbed By Shotgun-Wielding Man
BOSTON (CBS) – Boston Police are searching for a thief who held up a Mobil Mart on Meridian Street in East Boston with a shotgun, making off with an undetermined amount of cash.
Surveillance video shows the man bursting into the store, trying to cover his face with a bandana, then continually pointing the weapon at the store cashier. A customer at the counter flees, while two others at the back of the store seem unaware of the danger before them.
A friend says the longtime employee is traumatized by what happened. "All I know is she's home crying, very nervous, very disturbed. What if the gun went off, God forbid," he said.
You can see the cashier complying with the demand for money. As the thief flees, the surveillance camera captures a distinctive design on the back of the brown jacket he's wearing.
"We're just thankful she's alive, this shouldn't happen," said the young woman's sister. Friends and family say she's just trying to make a living, and it's too soon to know if she'll return to the job. "If anybody got a shotgun put to their head, they wouldn't want to come back either," said the friend.
Boston Police continue their investigation and urge anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact detectives at (617) 343-4234.
