7 Kids Injured In Duxbury Crash Involving 2 Charter Buses
DUXBURY (CBS) – Two charter buses were involved in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Duxbury, leaving multiple people injured. Seven kids and one adult were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital with minor injuries.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. near Exit 11 on Route 3 South. A GMC Terrain was also involved in the crash.
Fifth graders from the Eddy Elementary School in Brewster were on the buses returning home from a field trip to the Museum of Science.
"From what I understand one vehicle stopped short and then the bus stopped short and the next bus crashed into it. Like I said there were 95 people on it. They were on a school field trip a lot of minors on the bus," said Duxbury Fire Cpt. Rob Reardon.
The right and breakdown lanes were closed after the crash but have since reopened.
Principal Joanna Hughes released a statement that said, in part: "As of this evening, I have spoken to the majority of the parents who met their child at the hospital. I received word that the injuries were deemed to be "minor" in reporting terms, however no injury to a child ever feels "minor" to a parent. It is my understanding that all students have been released. State Police have been in touch with me, and they are investigating the accident."
