Drug Suspect Dies At Grafton Police Station
GRAFTON (AP) -- The Worcester district attorney says a man arrested on drug charges has died after being booked at the Grafton police station.
District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. says that 51-year-old Shane Cardoza of North Attleboro died Sunday night after he was discovered having convulsions in a holding cell.
Early said Monday that an autopsy is being conducted but authorities believe Cardoza may have suffered a drug overdose.
State police assigned to the district attorney's office are investigating.
The prosecutor said Cardoza had several small plastic bags of cocaine in his car when he was arrested at about 4 p.m.
Early said jail personnel called emergency medical services and tried to resuscitate Cardoza, who died at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
