Dropkick Murphys & Mighty Mighty Bosstones To Play Fenway Park In September

BOSTON (CBS) - It looks like the Boston-based band Dropkick Murphys are next in line to play Fenway Park.

The announcement was made in a video on the Red Sox website Tuesday, that Dropkick Murphys will take the stage for two concerts on September 8th and 9th with another Boston band as its opener, The Mighty Mighty BossTones.

The concert is still subject to the city's approval.

A portion of the proceeds from the two shows will benefit the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund, which helps support families of victims of 9/11 throughout the state.

"Dropkick Murphys have permeated Boston and New England sports culture, particularly here at Fenway Park where 'I'm Shipping Up to Boston' has long signaled Jonathan Papelbon's trip to the mound," said Red Sox Executive Vice President/COO Sam Kennedy. "The band has debuted songs here, been part of our rallies and shared in our joy during the 2007 World Series parade."

Tickets are set to go on sale Thursday, July 7th at noon and will be available online, by phone or at the Fenway Park box office.
