Driver Runs Away After SUV Crashes Into East Boston Burger King

EAST BOSTON (CBS) – Three people were hurt when an SUV crashed into the front of Burger King in East Boston Wednesday morning.

The Ford Explorer plowed into the restaurant on Bennington Street around 8 a.m., hitting three people.

The victims, ages 89, 73, and 69, were all taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where they were treated for what police called "non-life-threatening injuries."

Investigators say the driver ran away, then came back briefly to grab a black bag from the car before running away again.

Police said the SUV owner came to them a short time later and claimed the Explorer is used as a livery vehicle and that he has several drivers.

However, the man could not identify the person he gave the keys to before the crash, only calling him a "friend."

Police described the driver as Hispanic, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, medium build, clean shaven with dark short hair. He was wearing a dark shirt, black shorts and glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (617) 343-4234 or (800) 494-TIPS. You can also text the word 'TIP' to CRIME (27463).
