Driver Passed Out In Rush Hour On 128 Charged With 6th OUI
BOSTON (CBS) - It seems five arrests, a suspended license and a monitoring bracelet weren't enough to stop a man from drinking and driving again, according to police.
Fifty-year-old Timothy Converse of Laconia, New Hampshire was arrested Thursday evening for his sixth OUI offense after police found him passed out in a breakdown lane on Route 128 south in Lexington during rush hour.
Massachusetts State Police Trooper John Ciszek saw an Oldsmobile Bravada stopped in the breakdown lane around 5:30 p.m.
When he stopped to check on the driver, he found Converse asleep with the car running.
When Trooper Ciszek was finally able to wake Converse up he had a heavy odor of an alcohol on his breath and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
"Converse had difficulty answering Trooper Ciszek's questions and had difficulty standing once outside of his car. Those initial observations, along with subsequent observations made during field sobriety tests, led the trooper to determine that Converse was impaired and to arrest him," state police said in a statement.
Police later learned Converse was wearing an ankle monitoring device and that his license was suspended.
He was on parole after serving two years of a five-year sentence for a fifth drunk driving conviction.
Converse is now charged with operating under the influence of liquor sixth offense, operating a motor vehicle without a license and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
He will be arraigned Friday in Concord District Court.
