Antwoin Moore, 27, wore a neck brace and a bandage on his head as he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Brockton District Court.
Officers tried to pull him over Friday afternoon in connection with a drug investigation, but Moore took off, leading police on a chase.
Moore eventually crashed into Maryanne Kotsiopoulos' Jaguar, killing her. Kotsiopoulos was a driver for special needs kids during the week and on weekends she worked as a waitress as Heidi's Diner.
"She was just the nicest person you'd ever meet, "Janine Brasil told WBZ-TV's Bill Shields, "I only worked with her for two years, but she made everyone smile, even people who just met her."
Moore's attorney said Moore thought he was being carjacked by two men who turned out to be undercover officers and that's why he took off.
"He knew exactly what was going on and the only person responsible for this is that individual who was just charged when he proceeded through a red light and killed a poor, innocent, helpless woman," Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said Monday.
Kotsiopoulos' husband is questioning if police should have broken off the chase.
"I'm really mad. I could put my fist through a wall," said Bill Burnham, "because this didn't have to happen."
Moore is due back in court on November 13.
