MARLBORO (CBS) – State Police arrested an driver allegedly under the influence of drugs who they say sped away from officers at more than 100 MPH and drove on the wrong side of the road.
On Thursday just after 3 p.m., the Worcester County Deputy Sheriff reported a car driving erratically and at a high rate of speed on Interstate 495 in Marlboro. The vehicle exited and was driving westbound on Interstate 290.
A state trooper was parked in Shrewsbury near Exit 22 of I-290 when he saw the car speed past him.
The trooper tried to stop the driver of the 2007 Dodge Caliber, but he reached about 100 MPH as he was changing lanes and driving in the breakdown lane.
When the driver, Nathan Doran, 25, of Manchester, N.H., reached what police called a "congested construction zone" in Worcester, troopers stopped the chase.
State Police said Doran was seen getting onto Route 20 westbound in Auburn.
Doran allegedly began driving on the wrong side of the road in Oxford near the Charlton town line.
Police tried to deflate his tires but were unsuccessful.
Eventually, troopers positioned their cruisers in the road so Doran could no long evade them. He was arrested and taken to Holden for the booking process.
The New Hampshire resident faces 11 charges following the chase, including operating under the influence of drugs, resisting arrest, and speeding.
Doran was held on $1,000 bail until his arraignment, scheduled in Worcester District Court.
