Driver Charged In Rush Hour Police Chase Was Wanted For Illegal Gun Sale
CHELSEA (CBS) – The man accused of leading police on a chase through Boston and Cambridge during rush hour Wednesday evening is now being held on $100,000 bail.
Thirty-four-year-old Leroy Martin was arraigned in Chelsea District Court Thursday on several charges.
Prosecutors said Martin was already facing an assault charge before Wednesday's incident, in which a state trooper tried to stop him as part of a weapons investigation.
Martin allegedly sold an unregistered, loaded .357 caliber revolver for $750 in Revere.
Instead of pulling over for police, he led them on a chase from the Tobin Bridge, into Cambridge and then Boston, where he crashed his car.
A trooper fired at Martin at one point during the pursuit in self-defense.
Police arrested him at the Kendall Square station as he tried to get on the T.
If he posts bail, Martin must wear a GPS monitoring device.
He's due back in court July 9.
