$50k Bail For Driver Arrested In Wild Highway Chase
BOSTON (CBS) – A man who led State Police on a dangerous high speed chase last week was ordered held on $50,000 bail Monday.

26-year-old William Monopoli of Buzzards Bay was arraigned in Dorchester District Court on several charges including resisting arrest.

He was wanted for violating probation for an armed robbery conviction when officers tried to pull him over in Boston Friday afternoon.
A chase began, moved to Interstate 93 south and then to Route 24 south. Monopoli was weaving in and out of traffic, hitting 100 miles an hour at some points during the 30-mile pursuit.
He appeared to lose police after pulling off on Route 106 in West Bridgewater, but he crashed moments later and ran away.
A State Police K-9 named Jager tackled him and troopers arrested him a short time later.
State Police said Monopoli was high on heroin during the chase.
He now faces several charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, speeding, marked lanes violation, refusing to stop for police, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and operating to endanger.
Monopoli already has a long criminal history.
He was arrested in Brevard County, Florida in 2006 on several outstanding warrants out of Massachusetts and Virginia. Those charges include battery on a law enforcement officer, vehicle theft, and fugitive from justice.
According to records in Stafford County, Virginia, Monopoli was arrested there in 2008. He was sentenced to 10 years with all but six months suspended and indefinite probation with supervision.
