Driver Allegedly Runs Down Woman After Fight

MALDEN (CBS) -- Police say they were called to Lebanon Street in Malden, where a woman had been hit by a car.

The 31-year-old unidentified victim and the driver, Amy Lynn Heffernan, 29 of Lynn, did know each other, police said. In fact, the two women had spent the entire day together, but they began arguing near the victim's home.

WBZ News Radio's Karen Twomey reports.

At some point Heffernan hit the victim – pinning her against a wooden wall. "She ended up here, screaming for dear life, just screaming and screaming, and I'm there screaming, trying to make it to her," one witness explained. "I could hear her bones crushing against the wood.

Witnesses also say Heffernan stole the victim's purse with $600 inside.

Heffernan turned herself in to police later that night.

Heffernan is charged with leaving the scene of personal injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and unarmed robbery.
