Driver, 2-Year-Old Boy Killed In Route 3 Crash
WEYMOUTH (CBS) – State police are trying to figure out what caused a crash that killed a driver and his two-year-old passenger.
Thirty-five-year-old Curtis Thompson, Jr. of Rockland and the unidentified boy were killed when Thompson lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Malibu on Route 3 south in Weymouth just after 7 p.m. Monday.
"Preliminary investigation further indicates that the Malibu crossed two lanes in a southeasterly direction and went off the road into the median, continued down an embankment, and impacted two trees," State Police said in a statement Tuesday.
Thompson was not wearing a seat belt.
The boy was in a child safety seat in the rear center of the car.
"Neither victim was ejected but both suffered injuries from the impact to the vehicle," police said.
Both were rushed to South Shore Hospital where they died.
It's still not clear what caused Thompson to lose control of the car.
"No contributing factors have been ruled out at this point," police said in their statement.
"We have not yet ruled out the possibility that the driver took evasive action to avoid another vehicle, but we have not established that either."
State police did not release the child's name or his relationship to Thompson.
