Dozens Of Gravestones Toppled In Whitman
WHITMAN (CBS) -- One look around the Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman and it's more than family members of those buried here can handle.
"I think it's absolutely horrendous. My husband is buried here, my children come here to see their dad and now I won't bring them back here," loved one Katie Hanrahan said.
Police said a total of 67 gravestones were felled at the cemetery. A citizen reported the damage at about 11 a.m.
For Hanrahan, the damage is hard to digest.
"I don't think there is a word that's an apt description, disgust doesn't come close. There is a special place for people like this," she said.
One of the toppled gravestones was that of First Lt. John R. Fox, who was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Medal of Honor, according to police.
No fingerprints were found on the gravestones due to the wet weather. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 781-447-1212.
