About 40 cars and SUV's were "keyed" in the Back Bay, in the alleyway behind the Beacon Street buildings that back up to Storrow Drive.
It's about an eight-block area from Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue.
Residents told WBZ-TV they think it happened between Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
They're hoping that surveillance cameras in the area picked something up.
Most of the gouges went from the front to the end of each vehicle and impacted up to all four panels of each car.
Damage is estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.
