Double Shooting In Lynn Barbershop, Police Search For Suspect
LYNN (CBS) -- Police are searching for a gunman after two people were shot at a Lynn barbershop Thursday afternoon.
Police said they received a call about a shooting at Rudy's Barbershop on Lewis Street just before 1 p.m.
Two employees of the barbershop were shot, according to police. Rudy Bernabel, the owner of the shop, was shot in the head. The other employee was shot in the upper body.
Both were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment, and their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
A barbershop employee told WBZ-TV a masked man walked up and opened fire. There were customers inside at the time, and the street was busy. Many people saw the shooting from across the street.
"He walked across the street, positioned himself in front of the building and shot four times," a witness said.
Amberis Contreras, a friend of Bernabel's, was next to him when he was shot.
"The window shattered. I just ran after him," Contreras said. "I had to. I had to see who this person was."
Contreras was unable to get a description because he was wearing a mask and hood. When she came back to the barbershop she says Bernabel was conscious.
She said she has no idea why someone would target anyone inside the shop, especially the owner who she describes as a hard worker and loving father of five children.
"He's the sweetest man you could ever know," Contreras said. "He's not a troublemaker. He's been there almost 15 years."
Police said the shooter ran away from the barbershop after the shooting and has not yet been caught. They are reviewing surveillance videos from nearby cameras to try to identify the suspect.
No further information has been released.
