Dorchester Man Arrested In Shooting Of Postal Worker; Second Suspect At Large

BOSTON (CBS) – A Dorchester man was arrested Wednesday morning and another remains a fugitive in connection with the attempted robbery, shooting and kidnapping of a postal worker just before Christmas.

Maurice Williams Miner-Gittens, 23, and Keyon Taylor, 21, are charged with conspiracy to rob, attempted robbery and kidnapping of a federal employee. The government is offering up to a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Keyon Taylor.

On December 20, while a letter carrier was delivering holiday packages in Dorchester, Gittens and Taylor allegedly jumped into the postal truck and put a pistol to the victim's head. After a scuffle, the letter carrier was shot in the wrist, beaten and told to take his uniform off.

Taylor allegedly took the keys to the truck and started to drive away. The letter carrier escaped by jumping out the back door of the truck.

Authorities say Taylor abandoned the truck and fled on foot, leaving a trail of boot prints and blood. The letter carrier's uniform, cell phone and keys were found in a nearby trash bin that had blood on it.

Gittens, meanwhile, was the renter and driver of a U-Haul van that was used during the attempted robbery, which had the letter carrier's blood on the outside, according to authorities.

Gittens and Taylor face a maximum sentence of life in prison on the kidnapping charges, five years on the conspiracy charges, and 25 years on the robbery of federal property.

Anyone with information regarding Taylor's whereabouts should contact the U.S. Postal Inspectors at 877-876-2455 (option 2). He should be considered armed and dangerous.
