Dog Allegedly Stolen From Yard On Christmas Day

BOSTON (CBS) -- An 88-year old man's dog is believed to have been stolen from his yard on Christmas.

"If I was a lot younger I could take but I just can't take it anymore it hurts that much," said the dog's owner John F. MacPherson.

Daisy is a 26-pound Shetland Sheepdog. MacPherson said he let Daisy and Big Boy, who is also a Sheltie, out shortly before 3:00 P.M. on Thursday. His home on Sumner Street in Dorchester has a fenced in yard. Five minutes later MacPherson said Big Boy came in, but Daisy did not.

"He came up by the landing, you know, I said, 'where's Daisy?' She's usually the first," said John F. MacPherson.

MacPherson's son, John D. MacPherson, searched for the dog. They called police who they said also looked for the pooch.

The younger MacPherson said the seven-year old dog would not have managed to slip out.

"They were shelter dogs, and they are very timid. They'll come to the gate if you come to the gate they'll retreat," said John D. MacPherson. "You took the last enjoyable thing from a man who doesn't have much in life."

The older MacPherson recently overcame lung cancer and now doctors have found a shadow by his heart.

"Between that and losing my dog I am feeling lousy," said John F. MacPherson. "They're more than a dog to me."

The family just wants Daisy back, no questions asked. She is around 26 pounds and not even knee-height. She has a micro-chip.
