Doctor Says: March Madness is here

March is here and that means one thing for college basketball fans. Of course, I am talking about the College Basketball Invitational (CBI), which is quickly becoming one of the premier tournaments in the country. Forget Kansas. The CBI has Morehead State. The NCAA Tournament may have Syracuse and their 29-4 record but guess what? The CBI has Oregon State and their 14-18 mark.

In a first round filled with upsets, the CBI is down to its final eight teams. The NCAA Tournament field begins with 65 teams. The selection committee over at the CBI is a little bit more selective, only taking in 16 of the best college basketball teams in the country.

Let's take a look at some of the highlights from the first round of the CBI.

  • Best Individual Performance: George Washington's Damian Hollis poured in  career high 30 points and eight rebounds in front of a whopping 800 fans! (His team lost to VCU 79-73).
  • Biggest Statement Game: Boston University dismantled the defending CBI Champions, Oregon State, 96-78.
  • Biggest Upset: St. Louis over Indiana State. Listen, I know St. Louis was better on paper but last time I checked Larry Bird didn't go to St. Louis.

Over at the DA Show, we needed to raise our compete level so we all filled out CBI brackets. The entrance fee was a $1 lottery ticket and the winner will get to scratch all of the tickets on air for a chance to win $1,000,000. Here's a look at who we picked to win it all.

B-Robb: BU over VCU

Chris Curtis: St. Louis over Princeton

Chuck Perks: Charleston over Morehead

DA: St. Louis over Princeton

Dr. BS: VCU over Duquesne

JDeer: IUPUI over Akron

Rich Keefe: Oregon St. over VCU
