DNA From Woman Found On Boston Bomb Fragment
BOSTON (CBS) - A woman's DNA has been found on a bomb fragment recovered from the Boston Marathon, sources told CBS News. There's a chance it could've come from a spectator or a clerk who sold the parts to make the bomb, but it could also lead to a female accomplice.
Monday, the FBI collected a DNA sample from Katherine Russell, Tamerlan Tsarnaev's wife, at her parent's home in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. WBZ watched as agents entered the home.
CBS reported investigators will compare that against the DNA found on the bomb remnant to figure out if Russell had contact with the bomb. She is not a suspect and not charged, but investigators still want to question her to find out what, if anything, she knew of her husband's plans.
Meantime, life is getting back to normal near the Cambridge apartment Katherine shared with her husband and three-year-old daughter. "I've never seen his wife or his daughter while I was living there. The first time I saw them was at the police station," neighbor Albrecht Ammon said. Ammon moved in two months ago, and police wanted to know if he'd seen anything suspicious which he had not.
"I'd see Tamerlan like once or twice a week. He'd say hi and ask me how I was doing. I'd hear the daughter upstairs in the apartment run around. It did not seem like they were planning anything," he said. Ammon hasn't seen anyone at the apartment since investigators reopened his street and allowed neighbors back in. "Out of all places I picked you know I picked this house and they were living above me," he said.
As for the younger brother, Ammon ran into Dzhokhar just a couple of weeks before the bombing. He recognized Ammon from his time at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, where Dzhokhar had graduated two years before. "He just asked me how high school was and how his old friends were. He seemed really nice," Ammon said. "It was a shock. I just really couldn't wrap my mind around it," he said of realizing the Tsarnaev's alleged connection to the bombings.
The Medical Examiner's office has determined Tamerlan Tsarnaev's cause of death, but isn't releasing it until his body is claimed and a death certificate filed. His father had planned to do that, but this weekend cancelled his trip citing health issues.
