Dispatcher Assists NH Surrogate Couple's Roadside Childbirth

FRAMINGHAM (CBS) - Little Madeleine Grace is just a few days old and doing great, but her arrival into this world was a bit complicated.

"We thought we left in plenty of time, but apparently not," said Kelly-Beth Coyle, the surrogate mom.

Craig Coyle and his pregnant wife Kelly-Beth felt they could make it to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen for the baby's birth early Saturday morning, but they were mistaken.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Lana Jones reports.

Craig then called 911.

"I'm in my car. My wife is having a baby in the car right now," Craig said.

Craig's 911 call went to State Police dispatcher trainee Dana Peloso.

"It's a great story, so I'm glad to have been apart of it," said Peloso.

For six minutes, Peloso calmly walked the couple through the childbirth.

"I felt like I was almost out of my body the whole time. I sound calm, but I didn't feel calm inside," said Craig.

"It felt like a lot longer than six minutes, that's for sure," said Peloso.

Meanwhile, biological mom Maricar Taron and dad David Dube, of Plaistow, New Hampshire, were waiting at the hospital.

They had hired the Coyles as surrogates to carry their baby and didn't know they were missing the event until Kelly-Beth called from the back seat.

"And I hear the baby crying in the background. I think I was shocked. I didn't know what to make of it," said Taron.

"We could not have asked for a better outcome," said Dube.
