Discussions Underway To Increase MBTA Fares
BOSTON (CBS) – T riders can expect to pay more starting next summer.
The MBTA confirms discussions are underway by the board of directors to increase fares.
A vote could come in the spring, and fares would go up on July first.
It would be the first fare hike at the financially strapped agency since 2007.
There's no word yet on how much fares will rise, but the 'T' has to close a budget gap of 161-million dollars.
Only Baltimore and Los Angeles have lower base subway fares than the MBTA.
