Digging For Irish History In Lowell
LOWELL (CBS) - The search for relics of the lives of Massachusetts' original Irish immigrants has taken teams from UMass Lowell and Queens University-Belfast to the front lawn of St. Patrick's Parish in Lowell.
It was the site of a "shanty town" in the 19th century, and has already yielded a few gems from the past.
St. Patrick's historian Dave McKean says a dig there last year uncovered more than 1300 artifacts.

Queens University archeologist Colm Donnelly says in two weeks, the teams will travel to Ireland to dig at a related site.
The artifacts will eventually be displayed by UMass Lowell to tell the story of the Irish settlers' daily lives.
