Derry, NH Unites For Ultimate Powerball Pool
DERRY, NH (CBS) - Forget the office pool, residents of Derry, New Hampshire are pooling their money for the $800 million Powerball drawing.
Jen Lague posted the idea on her Facebook page, "Bringing Derry Together." Lague usually passes on the lottery, but she suggested the idea ahead of the $500 million drawing.
"I've never done this before, this was on a whim. I thought it would be 30 or 40 friends," said Lague.
For Wednesday's $500 million jackpot, 885 went in for the tickets. Then the jackpot went up. Over one hour outside a Derry coffee shop, a laundry basket piled up with entry names and dollars.
"Offering full disclosure with everything I am doing and being careful," said Lague
She said she already has a CPA and lawyer lined-up. There are rules, $2 only from each person, you have to be over 18 and it's OK if you don't live in Derry.
As they wait for the monetary wealth, they are already rich in community.
"It's just exciting to be part of something where everybody wants the same thing and we want to share the community spirit," said Derry resident Rachel Wright.
