Derek Lowe On Felger & Mazz: Boston 'Probably Number One' On List
Former Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe joined Tony Massarotti and Marc Bertrand on 98.5 The Sports Hub Thursday afternoon to discuss his future and potential return to Boston.
Wednesday night, Lowe was designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians. He doesn't have much say where he ends up, not yet at least, but Boston is atop his list of desirable destinations.
"Probably number one," said Lowe. "Just because my feelings toward the organization; being part of a very special time there. The organization -- that team -- is never out of it. They'll find a way to get back into it."
"You kind of miss that passion; that's the number one thing I've missed," said Lowe. "I've been away for eight years, and I've missed the passion of the city, and how much every game means not only the players but the fans."
"But a lot has to happen for that to happen," added Lowe. "I don't necessarily drive the bus here. You have to be wanted. You can't just knock people's doors down and say, 'Here I am.'"
Lowe started the season off strong, winning six of his first eight starts. But he's struggled as of late, and leaves Cleveland 8-10 with a 5.52 ERA. He said he started to make some adjustments when he first began to struggle, but they didn't work and eventually snowballed into his slump.
But Lowe, who was 70-55 with a 3.72 ERA over his eight seasons in Boston, will continue to work on his mechanics as he awaits his next destination, and still thinks he can make a difference for any team out there.
"Let's say it did happen, there'd be doubters galore. It'd be like why is this guy here? There's still a lot of good years ahead. You just gotta get your feet back on the ground," he said. "I just know myself. And I know what mechanical changes I tried to make into where it snowballed to where I am today."
"I 100-percent believe in myself. If I didn't then I wouldn't be playing," said Lowe.
