Deployed Servicewoman Returns Home Early To Surprise Family
FOXBORO (CBS) - Family members say that Kerri Stanley has always liked surprises.
And on Wednesday, she sprung a huge one on her father.
Stanley has been deployed in Afghanistan for the past year.
She's in the Coast Guard, and was in logistical support to the Army. Stanley was supposed to fly back this coming weekend, but she made it home early, and decided to surprise her dad at the finish line of the Harvard/Pilgrim 5K at Gillette Stadium.
With thousands of runners competing, Kerri jumped in the back of the pack, and worked her way up to just a few yards behind her father.
With the finish line approaching, she sprung ahead of her dad, John Moran.
Moran let out a yell when he saw his daughter.
"What the hell are you guys doing here?" he yelled. "This is great! It's good to see you."
As the two embraced with passing runners applauding the father and daughter reunion, Kerri's sister Molly was let in on the surprise, turning the embrace into a three-way circle of arms.
Moran also has a son who's in the Marine Corps. And when asked about his concern for his daughter, he said, " I worried about her every hour of every day. So to see her here makes this Fourth the best ever!"
