BOSTON (CBS) --- The state's highway administrator is telling commuters to leave the office before the snow or plan to stay late.

"I would recommend people that have to stay in town until 6 p.m. or so, they may actually want to stay later and let the storm conditions abate and let the peak of the rush clear and the crews work on the roads before they start their trek home," Highway Administrator Frank DePaola said.

With a midday snowstorm in the forecast, the second in three days, highway officials are mobilizing 4,000 pieces of equipment to treat and clear roads.

DePaola says he's been in touch with acting governor Secretary Of State William Galvin and plans are in place.
"We're anticipating some people may want to leave early," DePaola said. "The snow intensity should be at its peak between 4 and 7 p.m."
The Interstate 93 south HOV lane will open at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to accommodate extra traffic.
"Statewide we'll be able to handle the storm it's just handling the snow intensity with the usual evening commute," DePaola.
