Denver's Ryan Clady: 'Happy' Patriots Aren't In Super Bowl 50
BOSTON (CBS) -- While Denver Broncos offensive tackle Ryan Clady is disappointed he'll have to miss another Super Bowl due to injury, he's taking solace in the fact the New England Patriots won't be playing in Super Bowl 50 either.
"I'm happy for my teammates. I'm happy to be here this week and happy New England is not here, to be honest with you," Clady told reporters at Monday night's Super Bowl 50 Opening Night in San Jose.
Nothing like a little trash talk on one of the game's biggest stages, though is it really trash talk when you're just stating the obvious?
It's easy to see why the 29-year-old isn't a very big fan of New England and took advantage of the opportunity to mock them a bit. While Clady's Broncos have gotten the best of the Patriots in two straight AFC Championship Games in Denver, he's lost all four of his trips to Gillette Stadium.
"[The rivalry] is definitely real," he Clady. "Just that tension and rivalry when you get your butt whipped there a few times, you're not going to like the team. It's kind of how it is."
While he was quick to air his disdain of the Patriots on Monday, Clady did sing the praises of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady's resumes. But that didn't come without one more tiny shot at the organization.
"They've been very successful with it so you can't exactly knock them," said Clady. "But they're not here."
The wounds from the AFC Championship loss are still fresh in New England, and even just a little bit of trash talk from the Broncos isn't going to help. But they earned the right to say what they want two Sundays ago in Denver.
