Ausmus, Hale Set For Interviews With Red Sox
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox are not wasting any time to try to find their next manager.
After interviewing Yankees bench coach Tony Pena on Monday, the Red Sox will interview San Diego Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus and Baltimore Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale later this week, WBZ-TV's Dan Roche has confirmed.
Ausmus, who grew up in New Haven, Connecticut, will be in for an interview on Wednesday. He spent 18 years behind the plate for the Padres, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers, winning three Gold Gloves. He made his lone All-Star team in 1999 with the Tigers.
Ausmus has no managerial experience in the Majors, but will man the bench for Israel's World Baseball Classic team this year.
Hale, who has a long career managing in the minors, will be in for an interview on Thursday. Hale has plenty of experience in Boston, serving under Terry Francona from 2006-2011. He was named Boston's third base coach in 2006, and Francona's bench coach for the 2011 season.
Hale left Boston following Francona's departure after the 2011 season to become third base coach of the Baltimore Orioles. He was not interviewed for the Red Sox' vacant managerial position in 2011.
In addition to Pena, the Red Sox have also interviewed Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach for the open position.
