Dell Looking To Take Over EMC, Report Says
HOPKINTON (CBS) -- Dell is reportedly looking to buy Hopkinton-based EMC in what would be the biggest takeover deal in high-tech history.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Dell and private equity firm Silver Lake are in advanced talks to purchase EMC, and it could be a done deal within a week if it happens.
Investors are not waiting to find out – shares of EMC were up almost 8 percent in after-hours trading.
It's unclear what the financials would look like, but EMC has a market cap of $50 billion.
Analysts tell The Journal that Dell would benefit from EMC's big data storage operation.
