Defense Rests In NH Murder Case, M.E. Details Attack
NASHUA, N.H. (CBS/AP) – The defense for a teenager charged with murder in a New Hampshire home invasion last year rested its case Thursday afternoon without calling a single witness.
Closing arguments are expected Monday in the state's case against murder defendant Steven Spader.
Read: Earlier in the day Thursday, an expert witness testified that Spader wrote detailed summaries of the attack.
The last witness to testify for the day was New Hampshire Medical Examiner, Dr. Jennie Duval.
Duval's graphic testimony described the lethal wounds inflicted on 42-year-old Kimberly Cates with a machete and knife.

Cates died from blood loss after suffering 32 stab wounds, some of which pierced her heart, slashed her brain, and fractured her skull.
A prosecutor stood over Spader and stared at him as Duval testified that Cates was alive for every single stab wound.
Prosecutors say Spader wielded the machete during the home invasion that killed Cates and maimed her 11-year-old daughter.
