Decision On The Design Of New Bridge In Shrewsbury
SHREWSBURY/WORCESTER (CBS) - A deal has been reached for replacing a crumbling bridge that connects Shrewsbury to Worcester.
Originally, the state Department of Transportation wanted to spend $140 million to replace the Burns Memorial Bridge while local lawmakers favored a grander replacement. The price difference between the two models was about $48 million.
Instead, the two sides decided to work out a compromise. A new design will add elements to improve the new bridge's appearance without adding cost or construction time.
