Debate Heats Up Over Recent Supreme Court Rulings
BOSTON (CBS) - Hundreds converged on Boston's City Hall plaza Tuesday night to protest recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions involving reproductive rights. "Two, four, six, eight. Women should decide their fate," chanted the crowd.
It was a response to the Hobby Lobby ruling, allowing corporations to opt out of coverage for birth control. They were also protesting the repeal of buffer zones that kept abortion protesters from getting too close to clinics.
"We organized this rally with our colleagues, with our allies, because we are angry," said Megan Amundson of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. The stage displayed a "who's who" of political leaders and advocates. State Attorney General Martha Coakley promises to push new local laws protecting abortion clinics.
Also Tuesday, Massachusetts Citizens for Life sent a letter to legislators urging them to, "please think carefully as to whether or not the latest version will pass constitutional muster."
