Davis: Media Took Boston Marathon Bombing Testimony On FBI Out Of Context
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis wants to set the record straight after he says the media took part of his testimony in Washington over the Boston Marathon bombings out of context.
On Saturday, Davis told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe that the media is sensationalizing a statement he made to Congress that the FBI did not inform his department that they had investigated bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The commissioner also said that while he would have liked it if the FBI had passed along Tsarnaev's name, he believes it probably wouldn't have prevented the bombings.
"They check over a thousand people a year. So the fact that they didn't specifically tell us isn't a major concern to me. As a matter of fact, I testified to that over and over again but it didn't get in front of the press," Davis said. "Everybody concentrates on the fact that I was not told of the name of this individual beforehand. I wasn't. That's the truth. But we have to look at all the facts."
Davis noted that there certainly is room for improvement and he welcomes the comprehensive review that's currently underway in Washington. But he also made it very clear that he sees the FBI as a partner that's always willing to help.
"The FBI has always shared information freely with Boston police," he said.
He encouraged the public to make up their own minds and to look at all the facts before jumping to any conclusions.
"We have to look at all the facts. We only knew what we knew at that particular time," Davis said. "Hindsight is 20/20."
