David Price Remains Sensitive On Twitter After Getting Ribbed For Postseason Record
BOSTON (CBS) -- David Price got roasted on Twitter by a random person on Twitter. David Price did not enjoy it.
On Tuesday, Zolak & Bertrand examined a tweet from Price which showed a little bit of sensitivity from the Red Sox' $217 million pitcher.
The Halloween-themed tweet proved to be extra spooky for Price.
"What a great tweet!" Marc Bertrand exclaimed. "Good tweet. Good tweet. Good joke."
"Excellent," Scott Zolak agreed.
That one came after Price had responded to another Twitter user insulting his playoff record.
Bertrand then quoted MassLive.com's Christopher Smith: "Why Price felt the need to respond to this fan, who has 92 followers on Twitter, is beyond me."
"David Price hears the noise," Bertrand said.
"I'll tell you why he would tweet," Zolak said. "Because he is reading everything. He cannot help himself. He needs to be adored. He wants to -- no, he doesn't need to be adored. He wants to be adored. He wants you to pat him on the back."
Bertrand thinks it's a problem.
"Are there not people [where you can tell] hey, that is a confident individual and that guy is not a confident individual, he's always got doubt, he's self-doubting himself, he's just never able to be confident? Some people either have that characteristic or don't. He doesn't have it," Bertrand said. "And so the talk of training or even the [suggestion] to go see the sports psychologist ... can a sports psychologist give you confidence? Is that a thing? Can you give a non-confident person confidence?"
Zolak said that it is possible, but a change for Price won't happen overnight.
"This is going to get worse before it gets better," he said.
Price was touched for five runs -- all earned -- on six hits and two walks over 3.1 innings in his lone postseason start for Boston this year, bringing his career postseason totals to 2-8 with a 5.54 ERA. He remains winless as a starter.
