David Ortiz Named American League Player Of The Week
BOSTON (CBS) - After recording at least one hit in each of the Red Sox six games last week, designated hitter David Ortiz has been named American League Player of the Week.
Ortiz went 12-for-22 last week, good for a .545 average, with six of his hits going for extra bases. Ortiz hit four doubles and two home runs, while driving in six runs and scoring five.

Big Papi became the third member of the Red Sox to take home Players of the Week honors in the last four weeks, joining teammates Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford. It is the fifth time in Ortiz' career the DH has taken home the honors.

With the big week, Ortiz saw his average rise from .306 to .325, the highest it has been since April 3. Ortiz now has 13 home runs and 30 RBI on the season.
