Dave Richard: Is It Worth Holding Out Hope For Josh Gordon?
BOSTON (CBS) - Week 2 of the fantasy football season beings Thursday night as the Ravens host the division rival Steelers on CBS and the NFL Network.
CBS Sports fantasy football expert Dave Richard came on Toucher & Rich this morning, as he does every Thursday throughout the season, to answer questions from the callers and provide his overall analysis of the week ahead, starting with Tom Brady in Minnesota.
"People are starting to be wary of Brady because of how poor he looked in Miami and how bad his offensive line played. I believe Brady only completed three or four passes on third down. He looked for Rob Gronkowski a lot and couldn't connect with him," Richard said to lead the discussion.
"Now he's taking on a team in the Vikings that looked really good against the Rams in Week 1. Their head coach is Mike Zimmer -- he schooled Brady last year in Cincinnati. I'm worried about the Patriots this week. I'm not sure they can win that game."
In fact, Richard is picking the Vikings to win the game. He knows it's a ballsy move, but Norv Turner always puts up a lot of points against Bill Belichick and he believes Zimmer will exploit the weak Patriots offensive line.
After taking some calls from the listeners, Richard weighed in on the second biggest elephant in the NFL room. Not Ray Rice, but fellow AFC North counterpart Josh Gordon.
Gordon has been suspended for the season for failing his third drug test. However, the NFL and NFLPA are working on a new policy that could possibly reinstate Gordon and others.
Should fantasy owners remain hopeful that Josh Gordon returns?
"I don't know if it's worth picking up Josh Gordon. Even if the NFL does revamp its drug policy, there's no guarantee that his suspension will be reversed, thrown out or even cut in half. [CBS Sports NFL insider] Jason La Canfora told us that even if the policy does change that Gordon will be suspended for the year. I have him in a couple of leagues just in case. But let's say you're 0-1 and you have some guys that are injured, Gordon is not going to be on my roster. I'm trying to find guys that can help me win right now."

UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Gordon's suspension "expected" to be reduced to 8 games following Friday's vote, if passed.
