Dates Set For Special Mass. US House Election
BOSTON (AP) — A date has been set for the special election to fill Sen.-elect Edward Markey's seat in the U.S. House.
The primary election will be held on Oct. 15, with the general election scheduled for Dec. 10.
Markey, who won the special election fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of John Kerry, will be formally sworn into office on Tuesday. He'll resign his House seat.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Senate. Vice President Joe Biden will administer the oath of office.
A slew of candidates have already begun campaigning for Markey's seat.
Democratic candidates include Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, Milford state Sen. Katherine Clark, Medford state Rep. Carl Sciortino, Belmont state Sen. William Brownsberger and Framingham state Sen. Karen Spilka.
Republican attorney Frank Addivinola is also running.
