Damon decides Detroit is better than Fenway

Johnny Damon is staying in Detroit.  The Tigers outfielder says he's decided to pass up a chance to return to the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox had claimed him on waivers this week, and it was up to him to approve the deal.
Damon said before Tuesday night's game against Kansas City that he's turned down the move.  Damon is hitting .272 for the Tigers with 4 homers and 41 rbi's.  Former teammates David Ortiz and Jason Varitek had been texting Damon, trying to convince him to come back to the Red Sox

The 36-year-old Damon helped lead the Red Sox to a World Series championship 2004, their first since 1918.   He left the Red Sox to play for the Yankees in 2006 and many Boston fans never forgave him.  Damon says he never appreciated being booed at Fenway Park after helping the Sox win the world series.
