Daily Talker: Santa Flanked By Fighter Jets

It is something you might not expect to see when you look to the skies on Christmas Eve: Santa Claus flying in his sleigh, with a military jet escort.

That image is included in the video from the North American Space Command introducing this year's Santa tracking program. Every December 24th, millions of people go online or call NORAD in Colorado Springs, Colorado to find out how close Santa is to their home.

Some child advocates say putting St. Nick next to fighter jets isn't appropriate for kids. "They are associating this with the military in children's minds. It is completely out of line," child and family psychologist Allen Kanner told our news partners at The Boston Globe.

NORAD's primary job is to track enemy bombers or missiles that could enter U.S. airspace. "It's still cutesy since it's for kids, but we don't want people to lose sight of our true mission," Navy Captain Jeff A. Davis told The Globe.
