Daily Talker: GPS In Boston Police Cars
Some Boston Police officers are worried about GPS devices will soon be installed in cruisers.
According to the Boston Globe, department administrators say the system will mean faster response to calls, since dispatchers will be able to see where officers are, instead of having to wait for a response over the radio.
But some officers who spoke anonymously to the Globe have concerns they'll have to explain every move they make. They also worry the tracking could jeopardize their ability to develop street sources, and have concerns the GPS system could be hacked.
The City Council still needs to approve the plan as part of an arbitration award that gives officers a 25.4% increase in pay and benefits over the next six years.
