Daily Talker: Gambling On Presidential Elections?
You can already bet on just about anything in Las Vegas. Now a lawmaker in Nevada wants to add one more thing to the list -- gambling on presidential elections.
State Senator Tick Segerblom wants a law allowing casinos to take bets on who wins America's top political job.
Gambling on U.S. elections is already done in Great Britain, and one gaming company took in close to $2 million in wagers for the 2012 election. Ladbrokes is already handicapping 2016, with Hillary Clinton as a 6 to 4 favorite. On the Republican side, both Marco Rubio and Chris Christie have 12 to 1 odds.
Segerblom says that not having political gambling in Nevada is "crazy and stupid because it's tax money that we should keep here as opposed to sending it overseas."
One Vegas oddsmaker thinks gambling might help low voter turnout.
"It's the first time you can actually have a say in the outcome of your money," said Jimmy Vaccaro.
