DA: Lynn Man Shot By Police Was Attempting Break-In
LYNN, Mass. (AP) — The Essex District Attorney says a Lynn man fatally shot by police was part of a group launching an armed home invasion.
District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said in a statement Wednesday that a joint federal, state and local investigative team had "reliable information" that 23-year-old Brandon Payne and others in two cars were about to strike when state police and Lynn police stopped them Sunday night.
Blodgett said Payne accelerated in reverse and rammed a police car and continued to ram it. The prosecutor said officers fired at Payne's car and he was struck twice. He died Monday at a hospital. Blodgett said three of Payne's associates were arrested and police recovered three guns from the two cars.
The police shooting is being investigated. Payne's relatives have said they want a full explanation.
