'Curious' Why Rag Doll Is A 'Misfit Toy'

While the movie "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" has always been a hit, it has left some people wondering.

Debbie wrote in to WBZ's Curiosity Web page: "Can you tell me what is wrong with the doll on the Island of Misfit Toys?"

Debbie is talking about the rag doll who lives on the island with other misfit toys, such as "Charlie in a Box," the spotted elephant and the train with square wheels.

It turns out, the doll barely appeared in the original script, so the author did not explain why she was on the island. But over the years, as the special was revised, the doll got more screen time and lines.

One of the producers behind the special, Arthur Rankin, says he believes her problems are "psychological."

You can watch "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Wednesday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
