Crews Stop Leak At Water Main Break In Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - Crews worked through the night to contain a major water main break in Cambridge and were able to stop the leak by Sunday morning.
At around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the 30-inch main broke at the intersection of Broadway and Trowbridge Streets.
The break caused a huge mess, flooding the streets and leaving most of the city's residents with little or no water pressure.
WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports.
Officials are still investigating exactly what caused the water main to rupture, spilling thousands of gallons into the streets.
There are still dozens of people with little presure or no water at all, making bottled water a very popular necessity for neighbors in the area.
On Sunday, several streets remained closed as crews fix the gaping hole and broken pipe before rush hour begins Monday morning.
Cambridge Police said the water has been tested and is safe to drink.
