Crews In Waltham Rescue Teen Pinned Under Car
WALTHAM (CBS) - A 14-year-old girl is in the hospital with serious injuries after being run over and pinned by a car in Waltham on Thursday.
Police say an 18-year-old woman driver was pulling out of a parking lot of the Waltham Raquet Ball Club shortly after 3 p.m. when her car struck the 14-year-old girl along with an 17-year-old boy.
The 14-year-old victim, who has only been identified as a student at Waltham High School, was dragged and pinned under the car.
An arriving police officer was able to grab a floor jack from Boston Muffler, Brake & Automotive, which is nearby.
Two officers, Jeffrey Fogg and Det. Sgt. Steven Fournier, along with an off-duty firefighter Matthew MacEwenm, who witnessed the crash managed to get the car jacked up and were able to free the teenager.
"It's one of those things it just happens so fast, you don't even think about it. You just do it," MacEwen said. "I don't think I did anything else in my situation wouldn't have done."
The 14-year-old victim was rushed to Mass General Hospital with serious injuries.
The 17-year-old boy who was struck suffered minor injuries.
Police say solar glare was believed to be an issue.
No charges have been filed at this point.
