Nancy Kerrigan To Be Called As Witness In Brother's Upcoming Trial
WOBURN (AP) - Prosecutors plan to call Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan as a witness at her brother's manslaughter trial in the death of their 70-year-old father.
During a pretrial hearing Tuesday, Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Keeley revealed that prosecutors want the famous skater to testify about her father's health before he died. Keeley said Nancy Kerrigan told police her father had chopped down trees and helped move furniture in the weeks before his death last year.
Prosecutors say Daniel Kerrigan died of cardiac dysrhythmia -- a loss or interruption of a normal heartbeat that can lead to cardiac arrest -- after an altercation with his son, Mark.
Nancy Kerrigan and her family have publicly supported Mark Kerrigan, insisting that the father died of a longstanding heart condition.
Jury selection is to begin Friday in Woburn Superior Court.
