Convicted Rapist In Court After Decades On The Run
PORTLAND, Maine (CBS) – Gary Allen Irving was hauled into court on Friday.
The 52-year-old had been on the run from Massachusetts since 1978, when he disappeared while awaiting sentencing in three rape cases out of Cohasset, Weymouth and Holbrook.
State Police found him at a home in Gorham, Maine where he was living with his wife and raised two children.
Court documents obtained by WBZ-TV say that Irving answered the door Wednesday night when police showed up, identified himself as Gregg Irving but then admitted his name was Gary and refused to answer any questions.
A large scar on his chest helped police confirm they had the right guy.
Friday's hearing to send him back to Massachusetts was delayed until Monday.
