Concrete Falls From Boston Overpass, MBTA Station Ceiling
BOSTON (CBS) - The state is dealing with falling concrete in two areas of Boston.
The MBTA says small pieces of concrete fell from the ceiling at the Forest Hills Commuter Rail platform. Service was not affected and no one was injured. Part of the platform is closed to the public while the area is inspected.
A similar problem happened on the Bowker Overpass in the Back Bay. Several pieces of concrete fell to the sidewalk on Commonwealth Ave.
The debris came loose on the outside wall of the eastbound side of the overpass. MassDOT officials believe the concrete came loose because of repeated freezing and thawing.
MassDOT says they are expecting to advertise a $10.9 million repair contract for the overpass this spring.
